Pre-Conference Workshops

Workshop 1: Harm Minimisation and Full Scope of Practice
Both harm minimisation and full scope of practice elicit different responses from even seasoned pharmacists. For pharmacy to flourish, it must evolve and blossom to include the multitude of skills which lay dormant in our multi-skilled pharmacy workforce.
This workshop will explore the overlap of full scope and harm minimisation, for example pharmacists administering long term treatments for chronic addiction problems with the injecting of long acting buprenorphine, and will provide real life examples from practitioners who can shed light on what can be a ‘shady’ area for some.
The workshop will also equip pharmacists with the most current treatment plans for smoking cessation, including vape products, and discuss the new regulations the TGA is considering with paracetamol re-scheduling, which will affect us all.

When: 2.00pm – 5.30pm, Thursday 1 September
Where: Level 4, Hilton Sydney
Cost: $55 inc GST (includes afternoon tea)

WORKSHOP 2: How to protect your most valuable business asset – your registration
Regulatory activity within NSW is constant and unavoidable. This practical session will focus on the role of the Pharmacy Council of NSW and how it interacts with other regulators to protect the public. Find out what this means for your business and those who work within it – employed pharmacists, locums and you as a proprietor. Session highlights will include:

  • The complaints process – who is who in the zoo?
  • Which issues land business owners in the most trouble
  • Tips to minimise regulatory exposure
  • Real life experiences from the regulatory coalface.
  • Locums, silent partners, graduates, early career pharmacists – where does the risk lie?
  • Professional isolation versus mentoring – are you giving back to the profession?
  • The importance of professional autonomy
  • Support and closing the knowledge gaps

This not to be missed event is a must for all business owners and employed pharmacists.
